The main quality of the book which proposes Raluca Felicia Thomas is the originality of the approach readers. Although based on an impressive list of bibliographic sources, they are used only as starting points in the use of methods and techniques work in establishing criteria for the classification of material researched and, above all, establishing typology paremiologic expressions, so as described by analyzing the content and approach taken in proposed form. Recourse to reference works also helps to confirm or refute the findings of which is reached by its own means, to confront some personal views. However, even in these cases is done, each time, a recovery 'critical and creative "theoretical sources, honest and complete with references to the authority claimed.
Secondly, I noticed that whole new perspective of the issue in question is treated. The general theme of biblical proverbs is obviously not new and, from this point of view, the work could be a nice summary of previous research, as is done frequently, unfortunately, among young researchers from academia. This is not the case. Applying a grid original, resulted from the theories and practices of linguistic pragmatics, the onomasiologiei, of structuralism, the comparative and historical grammar, and the contrast-typological method, this study leads to the revelation of new aspects of texts in existence at least two thousandth anniversary. Of course, the mix of methods and combinations of techniques of analysis show that none was comprehensive and respected in letter and spirit. But this is said in the introduction expressis verbis theoretical work and, as long as this system leads to new conclusions result, the effort is worth appreciated, especially since the potential naive and too bold remarks are made with full responsibility and fully informed by the author.
Of modern theories of communication and pragmatic language structures are taken act of verbal communication, logical and formal schemes of the statement in question. Raluca Onomasiologia helps Felicia Thomas to order, conventional material is rich and extremely heterogeneous, "systematized" thematic chapters and Florilegiu already in editions devoted to the tradition of sacred books, but where proverbs are grouped so that can cause confusion for the unsuspecting reader. In the present paper is reorganized body of texts, operându is a drastic reduction in printed verses were collected as in biblical times, as the "proverbs". In this new corpus of 365 proverbs, which do not coincide with thematic chapters of the Book of Solomon, the method logical-grammatical and stylistic decomposition, the so-called "technical paraphrases", which together, in fact, purchases classical and modern methods. An interesting finding made on this occasion is that in ancient times, "doctors" - the most brilliant representatives of patristic, exegetes of great authority - do the same. The present thesis proves once again that everything is "discovery" modern speech acts analysis techniques are old, theorized and applied successfully in antiquity, improved in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and re-valued in modern and contemporary. It is, in fact, the evolution of classical rhetoric and modern rhetoric, from this, the areas of communication sciences and arts.
On the other hand, reference is made to numerous other structures paremiologic, spread throughout the Old Testament and New Testament. Moreover, all these are compared with proverbs "secular", taken from old and new collections in our culture (primarily in the ten volumes published by Julius Zanni) or from other cultures (Balkan, Western, etc.. ). From this wealth of examples, to reach a vision of how the saying, in essence, "says more than saying," As stated at some point in the text. Because the very premise of the paper is this: Romanian versions fail, not without stumblings, manifested throughout the centuries of interpretation of ancient languages "sacred" to restore the force of meaning of those sentences short, often illogical ciphered or formulated.
In this way, it compares the old Romanian versions, first Bible of Bucharest (1688) analyzed in no more than three editions, of which at least one resulting from the collation of two original manuscripts, with newer versions, made by Nicodemus Munteanu Radu Vasile and Galaction Gala, King James, etc. Valeriu Anania Each version has solved in a certain way and equivalence reviewers encyclopedic language difficulties, as they call the pragmatic elements of real meaning, without which the message of proverbs not achieve performative, while others remain downright obscure. This is why the work was called, in a first draft, presented by the author as a doctoral thesis, "Romanian versions of biblical proverbs," a relatively neutral name, modest, which expresses the philological analysis of the less pragmatic than . In fact, research from the very pragmatic concerns biblical proverbs, as was indicated in the subtitle of that variable.
Game title comes from the finding that the results depend on the clothes pragmatic linguistic analysis that is presented readers old treasury of wisdom, the author aiming to reveal the virtues of the Romanian language, in this case. This does not mean that the assessment was limited to performatorilor Romanian editions. To determine the performance of the Romanian language in the formulation of statements which by their nature, "conceal and reveal" or, otherwise expressed, "say much in few words", it is compared with older versions of Greek and Latin, except with the Slavonic or old Hebrew (which we have received, however, relatively recent form of Masoretic texts - sec. the ninth century), in which the author had access only through intermediaries, which is understandable, though.
The results of such an approach are more than interesting. It clearly shows how "the 70 wise" have allowed greater freedom in carrying Septuagint to Hebrew-Aramaic texts of old, in that they introduced in the text made Greek verses we have abandoned the old verses, changed terms and expressions have replaced real items (concrete references are based cues of metaphors, allegories and poetic images paremiologic). As to both types of texts, Romanian translators have found that not only have to contend with "Strait" Romanian language, but also inconsistencies in the text-based. The options will be more dramatic, the more mistakes equivalence becomes even more serious when it comes to religious texts, because they can lead to accusations of heresy, the "smintirea" divine word.
But the most spectacular contribution of this book lies in removing the logical-semantic mechanisms and grammatical and stylistic changes that secular speech in religious discourse. The partial substitutions rule, made gradually by refining, etc topical changes. or simply through a settlement in a new context, a message saying some, picking the common folk wisdom of folk creation, anonymous and collective, is transformed into a theological message, filled with grace divine attributes . "Good and Evil", "wisdom and stupidity" - central terms binary logic-syntactic structure, semantics and style of proverbs (built on relations of opposition or addiction) turns into "Belief and Unbelief" "Love of God and sin "and so on. Then, over the centuries, the opposite phenomenon occurs: the halo belonging to the Old Law, then guided millions of people, those statements back into the public domain, again becoming folklore, literature sapiential common property of the people.
Such substantive research contributions and may not be offered readers only through thorough knowledge of the material with which they work and devotion to the subject work. On the other hand, they validate the efficiency of working methods, in contrast to works that are erudite terminology parade, as stated in the text and in discourse "philosophical-scientific" as demanding as it is sterile as a result . A telling example is the analysis of the model flagship chapter of the thesis, another original element can not very common in the usual structure of a work of science teaching finality, incidentally. This chapter shows, however, can be useful as tools of modern and classical analysis of the language sciences, if applied in a balanced, well systematized, making the appropriate style and research, especially research subject.
Done clean, correct, and well built bit restrained logical sentence grammatically and stylistically, the book seems very archaic flavor permeates the "old and wise language" of religious texts, the chronicles, books of popular wisdom, and, of course, the " wise words ", decanted accumulation of centuries of peoples spiritual values. This style is very good ally with the technical terminology of modern science of language, the result is an interesting text, convincing, pleasing, full of lessons for the reader.
