Editura Universitara is publishing mainly specialized scientific works, like courses and textbooks for secondary or university education – plus atlases and Anniversary Volumes, but also various genres of fiction works, for the general public (general literature, literature for children, leisure genre etc.). We are focusing not only on the Romanian culture, but also on the universal one.
I. Your editing offer
If you want to publish your work at Editura Universitara, your offer should include:
The works are presented at the publishing house in electronic format, by email, at redactia@editurauniversitara.ro or secretariat@editurauniversitara.ro and / or on a media support (USB stick, etc.).
We recommend that the text of the paper be written with Times New Roman, body of letter 12, in a row, corrected and neat.
II. The review process
The evaluation process of the works includes several stages:
- editorial evaluation
- peer-review evaluation
- ethical evaluation
- revision of translations.
Our team of references (evaluators) consists of university teachers and academics from various scientific and academic backgrounds (Universities in Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta, Brasov, Alba-Iulia, Timisoara, Targoviste), some of them currently active , at European universities. In this way, the publishing house also benefits from the experience of universities from other countries in peer evaluation. They cover various areas of expertise in which the works proposed for publication are included. Of these, some are also responsible for editorial collections. In the case of interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary materials, representative evaluators for the approached disciplines are used. The coordinators of the collections were selected from the references by fields; they are university professors or lecturers with scientific, didactic and editorial experience.
The author / authors will send the text, accompanied by two papers and a CV, in electronic form, to the publisher's address. The publisher will not receive material that is incomplete. The general secretary takes over the works and, depending on their field, assigns them to a book editor. He takes over the work, puts it in the internal plagiarism program and a report is generated. If it indicates a small percentage of similarity, the book enters the review process. If the percentage is higher than the standards imposed by the publishing house, you will receive the manuscript for checking and citing all the sources highlighted in the report or the publication will be refused.
The editor, together with the publisher's director and a person with scientific responsibility for the collection where the paper falls, makes an editorial evaluation based on the impact of the paper, the target group of readers, the evolution of the book market in that field, promotion and dissemination, author name / authors. Within this evaluation, the possible circulation, the publication costs and their coverage are established.
If the proposed paper meets the editorial, technical and administrative criteria mentioned, we proceed to the peer-review evaluation in which the editor, on the recommendation of the scientific manager of the collection, submits the manuscript to two of the external referents of the publishing house.
The evaluation we make is of the blind peer review type (the author does not know the identity of the evaluators nor the evaluators the identity of the authors). The evaluation system considers aspects such as:
- the scientific novelty that the study brings
- originality
- the theoretical argumentation and the extent to which it is supported by the exploited bibliography
- presentation and implementation of the research methodology
- clear presentation of ideas
- the extent to which the paper brings advanced knowledge in the approached field
- the quality of scientific expression.
Following the evaluation, the paper:
a) can be accepted in the form in which it is presented at the time of evaluation;
b) can be accepted under the conditions of some interventions in the text recommended to the authors;
c) can be rejected.
If the referents have divergent opinions, the Publishing House requests the opinion of a third referent.
Regarding the research ethics, we aim at respecting the rules of data confidentiality, obtaining the protection of the interests of natural or legal persons, in order not to violate their legal rights.
The revision of translations concerns the evaluation of translations from Romanian into another foreign language or into Romanian. The evaluation is made by a specialist, a native connoisseur / speaker of the source language. The non-revision by the author / authors of the translations at the request of the publisher, automatically leads to the rejection of the volume proposed for publication.
Of the works proposed annually for editing, approximately 35% are refused for editing or the authors do not operate the changes indicated by the references.
After receiving the papers, the editor submits to the author an address with the observations from the evaluation of the references regarding the content, structure and style, the author being the one who has the final decision on the modification of his own text.
Following the authors' acceptance to make the requested changes, they will return with the improved material which is then verified by the editor and submitted for proofreading / editing. The material thus placed in the format is sent to the authors for Good for Print.
III. The editing process
For the works accepted for publication, the ISBN and the corresponding CIP description from the National Library will be assigned (which will be received in 10 working days). Editura Universitara Publishing House will make two cover variants for your work, so that you can opt for one of them.
Both the cover versions and the manuscript in format, you will receive them by email for any corrections, additions, modifications.
After receiving the description of the CIP and the Print Good (both for the interior and for the cover), the work will be printed.
A work can be printed from the financing of the publishing house, of a sponsor or from its own resources.
The minimum circulation is 100 copies. The works with low circulation are made by financing by authors / sponsors, the costs depend on the desired format and the number of pages and are displayed on our website, in the EuPrint Printing section.
There is also the possibility that the work will be printed from the financing of the publishing house, in a circulation of at least 350 copies and the payment of a copyright.
There is no limit to the maximum number of copies.
From the established circulation, 11 copies go to the Legal Book Deposit (7 copies to the Legal Book Deposit of the National Library of Romania, one copy to the Legal Book Deposit of the Metropolitan Library, one copy to the Legal Book Deposit of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova , and two copies remain at the publishing house for the book fund).
The duration of the editing process - from acceptance of the manuscript to publication - is, on average, 30-45 days.
The publishing contract is then concluded, stating that the authors assume responsibility for the content of the work, for the images and other visual elements inserted in the work, for which they have received, from museums, archives, institutions or individuals, permission to use them.
For the study volumes, the volume editor will obtain the publication agreement signed by each author participating in the volume. The University Publishing House will allow the authors of these studies to be able to publish them in other journals or volumes, provided that it is mentioned that they were initially published in a version by the University Publishing House. If certain studies have been previously published in other volumes and are proposed for publication in a volume at the University Publishing House, the volume editor will obtain permission to republish these studies and present it to the University Publishing House.
Regarding the payment for obtaining the permission to use the copyrighted materials, they will present to the publishing house both the invoices and the letters requesting the use of the material. In some cases, museums, archives, institutions or individuals who have given permission to use copyrighted material may request a volume from the publication. The publisher will undertake to send these volumes to the institutions, persons, who have allowed the use of the protected material.
