International Relations and European Studies are an academic specialty area of major importance in the context of today’s world. It is a world undergoing a process of remodeling and reconfiguration against the background of globalisation, under the aegis of the New Humanism. In this framework of global scope, international relations, cooperation among states, foreign policy, diplomacy, mediation and negotiation play a paramount role in the coherent development and evolution of the world. These processes request highly qualified specialists and professionals. Academic education, study and scientific research are the path to this status, the sine qua non condition for those who work in the area.

On the stage of international relations, the language of communication is English. Historically, in the twentieth century, English has increasingly become the language of diplomacy and international relations. Nowadays it is the language of diplomacy and international cooperation, of dialogue and negotiation, of international, European and regional organizations, of treaties, declarations and statements, of all kind of documents, of conferences, congresses, symposia, workshops, seminars and a whole diversity of events etc. It is also the language spoken across the European Union, and in its institutions, as a conference and working language. The international relations area is strongly connected with English – its very instrument of communication worldwide.

The Course International Relations and European Studies - Communication and Knowledge is an academic support in communication and knowledge through the English language in this domain of great importance for the contemporary world. It is aimed at the undergraduate (bachelor) and postgraduate (master’s degree, doctorate) students in the areas of International Relations and European Studies, Political Sciences and Law. Its main objective is to help them develop communication skills in the English language at a proficient level. The course is also useful for specialists in the field as a linguistic support and guide in the professional communication in English.

The English communication skills are essential in the framework of the academic studies, in higher education and scientific research, and, further, in the graduates’ professional development process. The course focuses on the linguistic knowledge of English, on the specialty vocabulary, on fundamental grammatical structures, but, also, on information, notions, concepts, and institutions related to International Relations and European Studies, i.e. on the exploration of the field through some major topics.

Focused on the specialised communication in English, but also paying attention to the specialized culture, through the topics addressed, the course is a real support for all the students, in the process of academic education and research, but also in the professional development of the future specialists.
