Health psychology is an extremely vast field of study, with profound implications in psychological practice in all areas of human and social life. This paper aims to provide those with additional training modern landmarks in this discipline. The set of volumes entitled “Health psychology - applied approaches - includes specialized studies, signed by Romanian authors, university teachers, practitioners from health organizations, but also young aspirants to a career in health. The objective of these publications is represented by the increase of the informative capital, the updating of the information within the university curriculum, the highlighting of some Romanian, international contributions, and, especially, of the personal contributions of the authors, capitalizing the current scientific interests and practical experience.

Both the studies in the volumes published in 2010 and those that will follow aim to cover general and specific topics in health psychology. In a review of the topics we mention the following topics: the need to study health psychology, models in health psychology (eg, biopsychosocial model), body systems (nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, etc.), diseases and psychology (in heart disease, diabetes, congestion, brain damage, arthritis, HIV, etc.), applications in specialized subfields (psychoendocrinology, psychoneuroimmunology, psychocardiology, etc.), promoting healthy behavior (eg, maintaining a healthy diet, weight control, sleep , smoking and alcoholism - psychological, social aspects, treatment strategies), patterns of behavior change, accident prevention, behavior and severe diagnoses, such as cancer, stress and determinants, illness, personality and coping, well-being, social and family support , couple, mental balance, the role of the psychologist in the therapy of sick people, answer emotional disorders in chronic diseases (denial, anxiety, depression), techniques for controlling thoughts, emotions or other maladaptive symptoms, pain and chronic disease management, pain psychotherapy (hypnosis, guided imagery, patient distraction, etc.), quality of life, psychological intervention in chronic disease, patient education, health promotion programs, methodological aspects (evaluation, measurement of health status and countless psycho-behavioral variables), challenges of research and applications of health psychology in certain existential settings (family, clinics, organizations , etc.), use of health services, interventions in hospitals or specialized units, hospitalization of children, preparation for medical interventions, characteristics of people working in the field of health, psychologist-patient communication, patient-doctor, analysis of costs necessary to run programs health etc.


To these topics are added modern contributions: the boundaries of psycho-behavioral normality, studies of healthy personality, positive personality, psychological aspects in brain pathologies, maladaptive phenomena, mental fragility in psychosomatic disorders, studies on family and partnership dynamics, activities and therapeutic relationships, current standards of practice in the field of health psychology, etc. The intention of the publisher, but also of the authors is to continue this editorial approach in the years to come, having the will to consolidate the training of applicants for employment in the field of health, but also of those who already work in these structures.

Iuliana Armas is a PhD professor at the Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest (U.B.). He recently graduated from the Faculty of Psychology at the same institution. He is the author of several studies in environmental psychology published in international journals, but also of many specialized books. Under his leadership, large-scale multidisciplinary projects were carried out on natural risk research and management in disaster situations. He is the founder and director of the Center for Risk Studies, Spatial Modeling and Dynamics of Terrestrial and Coastal Systems within the U.B.

Eugen Avram (editor) is a University Lecturer, doctor in psychology (a positive psychology thesis, at the University of Bucharest), holder in the Department of Psychology of the University of Bucharest and specialist clinical psychologist at the Emergency Clinical Hospital "Bagdasar-Arseni", Neurosurgery Section III. His specializations include (master studies): health management, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, organizational psychology. He also attended a series of specialization courses in management systems. He is the author and coordinator of 20 volumes in the field of health, neuropsychology, personality psychology and organizational psychology, over 20 chapters in collective volumes, 30 studies in periodicals, 3 articles in ISI journals.

Adrian Tudor Brate is a university lecturer, doctor in psychology, holder in the Department of Psychology of the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu. He is a well-known expert in the field of occupational health, having an extensive editorial activity, research and practice as an organizational consultant. Adrian also has an intense activity as a psychotherapist, working both in the private practice and in contracts with some clinics or universities. He has experience in regional development projects with the Center for Public Health in Sibiu and the University of Marburg.

Anamaria Brailean has a degree in Psychology from the University „Al. I. Cuza ”from Iasi, Master Student in Clinical Psychology, Counseling and Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapy at the“ Babes-Bolyai ”University of Cluj-Napoca, Clinical Psychologist under supervision, certified by the Romanian College of Psychologists.

Silviu-Andrei Matu holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Bucharest, a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling and Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapy from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, a Clinical Psychologist under supervision, certified by the Romanian College of Psychologists.

Cornel Mihalache primary neurosurgeon, doctor of medicine, head of the neurosurgery department at the Emergency Clinical Hospital “St. Andrei ”from Galati, head of works at the Faculty of Medicine,“ Dunarea de Jos ”University, Galati.

Iolanda Mitrofan is a university professor, doctor in psychology, Faculty of Psychology, University of Bucharest. He is the Creator of the School of Unifying Experiential Psychotherapy in Romania and a renowned practitioner, leading the S.P.E.R. (Romanian Society of Experiential Psychotherapy). Dumitru Mohan is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Oradea, doctor in medical sciences, primary neurosurgeon and head of the Neurosurgery Clinic within the Oradea County Emergency Clinical Hospital. In 1998 he participated in the postgraduate courses "Program Planning" and "Project Management in the Field of Public Health" organized by UMF "Carol Davila" Bucharest and the Romanian Association of Public Health and Sanitary Management. Since 1982 he is a member of the Romanian Society of Neurosurgery, and since 2008 he is a member of the Board of this society. Since 1998 and until now he holds the position of president of the College of Physicians of Bihor. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Balkan Medical Union. Between 1997-2002 he held the position of general director of the Oradea County Emergency Clinical Hospital. He is the author of numerous scientific papers presented at national and international congresses, as well as five monographs.

Catalin Nedelcea has a doctorate in psychology and works as a lecturer at the University of Bucharest. His main areas of expertise are psychotherapy, organizational psychology and psychological assessment. He has a multiple training with integrative character in psychotherapy, the status of formative psychotherapist and over 12 years of experience. In the field of organizational psychology, he has been active for over 6 years, being involved in training activities, HR consulting and psychological evaluation. In the field of psychological assessment he is involved both in applied activities and in research dedicated to the adaptation and development of psychometric assessment tools.

Andrada Parvu is a hematologist, doctor in medical sciences since 2009 (The theme of the doctoral thesis was represented by the study of coping in malignant diagnosis and individual and group psychological counseling of patients with malignant hematological diseases). She is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hatieganu" Cluj-Napoca (class of 1999). In 2002 he graduated the course "Psycho-social and professional counseling techniques" resulting from a European project "Leonardo da Vinci" for the training of psychological counselors for Eastern Europe, courses in the field of communication, NLP. He is a trainer for adult education, in the last 7 years he has been involved in organizing numerous trainings on psychological counseling, communication, training of trainers, in career guidance actions for young people. He is the founder of the Psychological Support Group for patients with hemopathy, which has been running in the Cluj Hematology Clinic since 2005.

Alexandru Tascu is a doctor in medical sciences, primary neurosurgeon in section I Neurosurgery of the Bagdasar-Arseni Clinical Hospital, Bucharest. He is the head of works at the Department of Child Neurosurgery - UMF "Carol Davila", Bucharest. He has competence in Health Services Management, master in Health Management, specializations in Israel, Belgium, France.

Mihaela Stoica is a graduate of the Faculty of Sciences, specialization in psychology, graduate of the master's courses in Organizational Psychology: Diagnosis and Intervention in Organizations, from the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu. She is the author of several studies in health psychology (topics: children with tuberculosis, HIV / AIDS infection, asthma crisis management, the relationship between coping strategies, social support and negative emotional states in patients with tuberculosis, loneliness at work, etc.). .

Ana-Maria Dima, Claudia-Iuliana Draganescu, Daniela Ionescu are trained in clinical psychology at the Faculty of Psychology / University of Bucharest.
