The content of this manual is intended for students studying for the Master of Science in Crisis Management program. The theoretical models and the practical options of the various schools of thought presented in the text are aimed at familiarising students with the field of crisis management in general and managing communication in crises in particular. The aim is to provide a conceptual framework within which students can understand organisational dynamics in crises, analyse crisis management models, and learn about possible action lines for managing communication in concrete crises.
As a general approach, the paper briefly analyses some of the main strategies in the fields of strategic management, mass communication, social influence, risk analysis, crises and crisis management with immediate reference to current practice models. The emphasis has been put on presenting practical solutions often used in the field and which have the advantage that they can be easily adapted to the contemporary organisational realities.
The various analysis and planning formats presented can be easily adapted to multiple concrete situations, to draft a plan for crisis management or to a communication strategy.
