Writing a new book about a human community, to which numerous writings and reflections from local authors and beyond have been dedicated, presents some inconveniences, but also a certain ascendancy. By its very title, this book aims to be, in particular, a guide in the recovery of collective memory and ethnic identity. Through the research carried out, we sought to capture aspects of the city and community of Techirghiol, in addition to those already known, those structural aspects of the community, not yet explored. Hence the subtitle of the monographic work entitled "contributions from a sociological, historical, ethnographic and religious perspective". We also aimed to offer an image of what the city of Techirghiol means today. We were equally interested in the mentalities, opinions and attitudes of the people, in a word, the experience, the soul of the city, the collective memory.
The spiritual dimension is, from our point of view, the only still valid dimension of the city. Unfortunately, there is no public effort to preserve the spiritual and material values of each community. Moreover, the media, the mass media, insist especially on the therapeutic quality of Lake Techirghiol, "suppressing" the existing vein of culture of the native multiethnic community. Our hypothesis is that the places of spiritual gathering, those noological frameworks, have moved to a relatively invisible area, of quasi-tangible spirituality.
Reality confirms that the technology, the computerization of information have led to the evolution of humanity, but without the "ancestral dowry", without traditions, how can we move forward? It may seem paradoxical, but it is precisely customs and traditions that constitute instruments that make society progress and at the same time maintain itself, preserve itself.
Fir trees stand tall and resist the elements because their roots are deeply rooted in the mountains. What if we put a fir sapling on a piece of marble and it could still take root?! Culture, tradition, customs are values that did not fall on us from the sky. They are the fruit of generations of effort, which have formed vigorous existential roots. Could we move forward without knowing our roots?! Could we answer the question: Who are we?!
Solution: Education, the reawakening of cultural, linguistic-identity and religious values, specific to each community.
