This volume brings together some of the works of the international conference of the Center for Research and Professional Development "Romanian Studies in International Context" (STUR): Ovidius in Romania, which took place at the University "Ovidius" in Constanta, on November 18, 2017. Materials supported at the conference, were added valuable contributions from prestigious authors who have the right to be with us in the process of paying homage to the poet Ovidius. exegetical recontextualizations of Ovid's work and personality, but also in cultural and scientific events, some of them reflected in the pages of this volume.
It is the sixth volume edited under the auspices of STUR after: Caragiale's News 1912-2012 (2012), Junimea and its impact after 150 years (2013), Literature, theater and film - In honor of the playwright Matei Visniec (2015), Cultures and civilizations eastern European countries. In memoriam Aida Todi (2016) and Romanian Studies in an inter- and transdisciplinary context. In memory of Marin Mincu (2017). It is, unfortunately, another volume in memory, dedicated, this time, to our colleague Stefan Cucu, Latinist and Ovidianist, first class, the first Doctor of the UOC on an Ovidian theme, which we would have liked together in this intellectual enterprise, but he hurried to leave us even in the year of the great events dedicated to Ovid. Thus, we thought of praising him with his favorite poet, reserving a section of this collection of texts, his critical and literary work.
As in the case of the previous volumes, the texts selected here have been subjected to a specialized expertise, by scientific references of the highest academic exigency, to whom we thank, once again, for the support given to our project: prof. Univ. dr. Liviu Franga, University of Bucharest, univ. prof. Dr. Petre Gheorghe Barlea, "Ovidius" University of Constanta and associate professor Christina Zarifopol-Illias, "Indiana University", Bloomington. We also thank our colleague, Mrs. Assoc. dr. Nicoleta Stanca, for checking the abstracts in English.
This volume, with international participation (it is true, not as extensive as we would have liked) and interdisciplinary, illustrates not only the complexity of Ovid's work, but also the enormous interest enjoyed by the figure of the great relegated, turned literary character, theater, film, music or visual arts. He enjoys the collaboration of classicists with academic authority and great prestige, who bring to the page studies dedicated to the work and personality of Publius Ovidius Naso, from a wide variety of perspectives, and even new translations of Ovidian texts.
They were joined by other lovers of Ovid's work, because the complex and enigmatic figure of the Latin poet relegated to Tomis is emblematic not only for our university, which bears his name, and for Dobrogea (Constanta and Ovidiu, Ovid's Island) , but for today's world as a whole, which has not yet succeeded in fully discerning neither the eternally ineffable art of love, nor the sophisticated and painful issue of exile with all its mental and anthropological implications. In the pages of this collection of texts, Ovid reveals himself to us in a unique way - that of our contemporary.
We sought, as usual, to bring together in the summary of the volume researchers from religious spaces and disciplinary areas as varied as possible, to illustrate as consistently as possible, the various perspectives and degrees of interest on the complex topic proposed for reflection by the STUR Center. But we did not give up, even this time, the collaboration of doctoral students and master students, from the encouragement and professional development of which we made a programmatic goal.
We hope that this volume will also be a useful source of information, both for students, masters and doctoral students, as well as for the general public, who are given the opportunity to rediscover and revalue Publius Ovidius Naso, two millennia after his passing into eternity.
