In the literature of our country stuck gradually phrase "foundations of psychology", which in previous years, was named general psychology. Then there was a detachment of personality psychology of this framework. There have been various theorizing that sought to justify a variation or another. The fact is that the volume of information has grown exponentially and any attempt to write the foundations of psychology and general psychology or howsoever called, hits a major difficulty.
First, it requires a selection, organization and systematization of the material according to established criteria and then "fill" the frame.
The truth is that this book was born as we have developed over the basics of psychology (cognitive psychological mechanisms) and Foundations of Psychology (Psychology of stimulation and behavior regulation). I gave the order of chapters, but the course because I appreciated it more logical order.
Thus, as was normal, I carefully attached to the chapter on sensory-perceptual processes immediately after and before the secondary processing of information (representation and thinking) because relations with the obvious attention to the mental life.
Then I placed the communication and language after all because real thinking in the present language of cognitive processing of information.
I left after the will because, in my opinion, is about personality and deeply involved in its structure.
If some chapters have a classic configuration and I am referring to sensation, perception, representation, thinking, memory, imagination, other chapters, such as communication and language, motivation, affect, will bring a new formula of presentation, new content, which current perspectives and approaches to make them more attractive. We consider aspects such as personal motivation action model four motivational-affective systems, robots and emotions or the relationship between free-will and choice. Of course, the other chapters present a report with the latest updated information models approach in psychology.
Returning to the beginning of the book, the introductory chapter "Psychology as a science" offers a different and more accessible to students. I avoided doing philosophy of psychology because it is a problem that can be accessed arid and understood later than in the first year of college. I tried to present a new approach to psychology perspective to argue that her position autonomous science. Consider unproductive and obsolete debates in which psychology is to ask whether or not science. I clarified things today no one asks rhetorically on this issue. It might be a problem related terminological dispute process, mechanism, function, activity. We appreciate that cognitive psychology has imposed processing time, the "treatment" of information and of course we talk about the "mechanisms" without nothing wrong.
However, these disputes are at a point on, sterile, because they get that attention be defined as a "phenomenon" psychic, which is already far too vague. Eventually, these labels are less important, important is that students understand - the content - the specific psycho-behavioral events under discussion. The chapter on mental life organization offers modern perspective - especially in terms of consciousness. The land you win transpersonal vision, quantum states of consciousness worthy of special attention. Thus, the book offers openings to various horizons of current psychology, not ignore the contribution of the great personalities of the Romanian psychology that marked this area and that was my teachers and predecessors: Paul Smith Neveanu, Mielu Zlate and Mihai Golu.
