"It's the New York virus," said the man who had spent the whole day in Times Square, begging from the tourists wandering around the area. "It's a virus that you can't get rid of, no matter how you treat yourself. Once you get infected, that's it, they said to you. There's nothing you can do about it. You will become addicted to this city and you will not be able to escape from it. It gets into your skin, into your bones, into your blood, into your plasma, it subjugates you completely. And if you go somewhere, you'll miss it, you'll see, man. You will be desperate, you will want to go back immediately. She's like a mistress you can't give up, no matter what you do. You always come back to her, even if you now have another girlfriend. You won't be able to live without it for too long, do you understand? Just wait for a few months to pass and you will prove me right. You'll get sick of this city and you'll never get over it. Of the city, of people, of places. Even this rotten subway, full of rats and urine, you will miss it", that's what that old man told me.
