To help prepare for the statistical exams and on-the-spot checks, a group of university teachers have compiled this volume, which can be considered as a guide for those who use statistics applied in economic practice and especially students of economic faculties within "Dimitrie Cantemir" Christian University of Bucharest.

The paper is structured in two parts, as follows:
- Part I includes applications, proposed problems for solving and control questions;
- The second part presents two solved case studies similar to the individualized projects that students must teach before the exam session (Project I "Using the survey in characterizing economic and social phenomena" 1 and Project II with the theme: " Statistical analysis of Romania's foreign trade with the countries of the European Community ”2).

The concept of the paper corresponds to the objectives and competencies provided in the files of the Statistics disciplines from the mentioned faculties, but it can be used by those who use the applications of statistics in the study of economic phenomena.

- Part I includes applications, proposed problems for solving and control questions;

According to the Discipline Sheet, its objectives aim at:
1. Learning the main concepts of statistics, methods and techniques of analysis of statistical indicators, statistical substantiation of forecast calculations.
2. The formation of statistical thinking and the acquisition of statistical language.
3. Training the ability to use information sources from statistical databases and official statistical data publications.

The statistical discipline aims to develop the following skills:
1. Knowledge and understanding
- Knowing and understanding the notions and concepts with which statistics operate;
- The correct use of specialized terms in the field of statistics;
- Knowing and mastering the calculation methodology and interpreting the economic-social statistical indicators;
- Competent use of national and international statistical data publications.

2. Explanation and interpretation
- Discerning use of the interdependence between statistics and other sciences for quantitative and qualitative analysis;
- Organization and functioning of the statistical information system;
- Organizing the statistical research process in a systemic vision;
- Carrying out a case study using statistics;
- Ensuring the comparability of statistical data at national and international level.

3. Instrumental applications
- Ability to translate into practice the knowledge obtained in courses, seminars and projects;
- Research skills, creativity, skills in solving case studies and statistical projects;
- Knowing the institutional organization of statistics at national and international level;
- Particularities of the statistical application in trade and tourism.

When selecting the problems and the methods used in solving them, it was taken into account the fast and efficient use of thinking and statistical tools necessary to analyze the phenomena over a past or current period and to substantiate the forecast calculations.
Due to the role that statistics has in the training of economists, this paper can be considered as a methodological necessity for the complex analysis of data on phenomena in economic and social reality taking into account the interdependence between factors and effects, under given conditions, of space and of the form of social and economic organization.
For the approach and the problem-solving method, this paper can be used not only by economics students but also by other specialists, who use statistical methods to calculate, analyze and substantiate prediction calculations.
The authors thank all those who through suggestions and observations can contribute to the improvement of this work.
