We lingered long before writing this brief foreword. Not that I objected on the structure and content volume. But because this volume raises a thorny question of science communication - that border. Where to begin studies of communication and linguistic investigation where it ends?
In a recent support of a doctoral thesis in the Faculty Doctoral School of Journalism and Mass Communication, faced the same problem, I am allowed to call for a comparison: science communication, I said, are also white as snow in dwarfs house - they feed on farfuriuţele and mugs each of the Seven Dwarfs. In other words, they take the conceptual units of research methods and schemes of neighboring sciences fund, whether the social sciences or science of language. A distinguished colleague, sociologist, has pointed out that this "joint venture" dwarfs role is to remove diamonds from the bowels of the earth - so enjoy the splendor of communication sciences to the deep knowledge of sociology, psychology, anthropology, history , linguistics, literature and art theory, etc.. Taking the analogy further, I might add that Snow White has worked hard to clean and industrious dwarves clean the house, but rebels - have made substantial contributions communication sciences to broaden knowledge in scientific fields neighboring countries. urban sociology and political science have benefited from the perspectives opened by the effects of media studies and sociology of organizations has been extended analysis of the media organizations. Psychology garnered numerous fruits of communication and interaction analysis of consumer behavior study. Science had language The advantage of the investigations on media discourse, conversational techniques, media and communication contexts role in the creation of messages and meanings. And the examples could be multiplied.
Studies of the volume is placed above the border area and the interference of language and communication sciences. In general, it was thought that the language that allows "representation" of the world, cultural forms, of the social, the individual allows himself representing linguistic phenomenon. Primacy language called a number of researchers (Saussure, Sapir, Benveniste, Levi-Strauss, Barthes, etc..) articulated to consider language as a model for understanding cultural phenomena: the components of a culture appear as a set of signs, which combine and generate meaning in a way analogous to combining linguistic signs. Thus, one by one, the system kinship, totemism, social and political institutions, fashion, media discourse, advertising, art forms, myths and rituals were interpreted as texts, whose function and meaning can be ascertained from the decomposition of operations into elementary units (vocabulary) and finding the combination principles (grammar and semantics), similar to those performed by linguists. And so prevalent in research methods and language can and should be applied (with more or less strictly) in the study of other areas of culture. The point is made clear by the words in the title of this book - through language and cultural construction is achieved access to reality. The theme is fascinating and dangerous - one of the risks constructivism (which seem to lean towards the formulation, manifest in the title) is dissolution object relative and volatile constructs. In this configuration the key question is: what will be the role of media in these processes of cultural configurations and build our picture of reality?
If we carefully study the volume of parts to see that the constructivist complacency is just an illusion. The volume is characterized by a variety of approaches, not only in the group of authors, but even the same author. The fact as such does not surprise me, because he is revelator search process and promote a theoretical and methodological identity of science communication. Even if the ruling is strong research with linguistic touch, meet sociology studies related to media organizations or political science or study of mentality.
Thus, Ana Maria Munteanu study proposes a first place in political science and communication interrogations on the functioning of public space and the role of media in these processes (and energy Supramediatizare icons). But the interrogations habermasiene, author slips into a critical analysis of American school spirit and to a post-modern paradigm reflection on the conditions of formation of political communication and, subsequently, communication in general. Another study proposes an epistemological reflection on the development of research in Romania. Analog resources of Romanian studies in problem-solving context multimedial research begins with the local media audiences to open the themes of globalization and identities in cyberspace. A third chapter could be considered research the history of theater in Romania (Figure silence that event. Shakespeare in repertory National Radio Theatre) - but, simultaneously, could be one of the history of the press. In this case the database is remarkable and analysis applied to a well defined phenomenon allows not only reveal the trends of the radio format, but also considerations inspired by the exciting field of research in psychology and perception of speech acts.
Todi Aida proposes all three studies, with a strong anchor in linguistics paradigms. One of them (socio-political changes and mechanisms in Romanian ideologizing cur) outlines the issue of political vocabulary changes in post-communist period. Another of the same bill, states the issue on the Romanian linguistic identity in the current media contexts. The third study in this volume - used Internet language characteristics (critical, anxiety and concern for misuse of the Romanian language in online discussions) research seeks comments on the forums on the quality of articles and debates of the Romanian language. Inventory attitudes and public issues should be thoroughly discussed by investigation of socio-cultural horizons of those who engage in such exchanges of views and reveal the correlations between these factors and standard subjects and attitudes. Finally, the fourth study in this signature theme deals with cultural identity (Romanians living abroad - communication structures and cultural identification in cyberspace), in which case a list of sites of Romanians in diaspora is filled with some considerations on content and quality of the Romanian language.
A second group of authors propose one single investigation. Thus, Adriana Florin Anghel, Claudia read and launches an issue between the political and philosophical reflection studies: Paragigme border: Prut - apodemică border in political discourse post-December. In this spirit, one chapter deals with the question of metaphysics peratologice subtle: Impact on political discourse and political tribulations another diplomatic lists border on the Prut (Prut: defining the border paradigm in political discourse). The author concludes that "Prut border was defined as a paradigm in political discourse (...) and analog key psychological level, in an effort to make history in a historical way of restoring identity." Raluca Petre proposes an analysis policy on audiovisual system in the post-communist (Romanian media policy and institutional design in European context: cultural structures and commercial pressures). The analysis is carried out by comparative methods (European legislative framework and practices), in terms of normative paradigm of roles mass media in democratic societies. Navigating the methodological and conceptual freely between the current schools of thought and concepts, approaches with ease Mariana Cojoc relationship between political communication, public relations and media (news and unfathomable ways of truth. Coverage of politics in contemporary society) . talks about propaganda, manipulation and political communication experienced a ferment in publishing books in Romania and recently - unfortunately rarely accompanied by a complete bibliography of specialized knowledge and focused only on some titles and not excelled by speculative considerations were based on research empirical. Mariana grind propose some insights into strategies used by political discourse (and that of journalists who covered him) in the study of persuasion in action and acts of political language in the local press. An investigation brings unique sound obituary notice in the press: Comments pragmastilistice pragmaretorice and signed by John Constantine Mladin, not only through May special theme, but rather by the seriousness and rigor of analysis, the predominant language of the bill.
A volume that suggests very different angles of approach and place, almost ostentatiously, in various schools of thought, theories and research methods. Heterogeneity is not programmatic communication sciences, but it appears as a consequence of the slow process of institutionalization of the field. It is expected that over time, slow mechanisms (but hopefully irreversible) attachment become more obvious in the paradigm, and with it the identity and contribution to generating scientific knowledge. So that Snow White to bring to light diamonds.
